Valises for Camp Ground: Arts, Corrections, and Fire Management in the Santa Monica Mountains

This is an exhibition with related events at the Community Room of the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena. The show is open to the public: September 1-30, 2018. The gallery is open from 12-5pm every day except Tuesdays. The Armory is located at 145 North Raymond Avenue, Pasadena, CA

SPECIAL EVENTS

Please join us for a reception at the Armory with the artist on Saturday, September 15, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. At 3:00 PM, just prior to the reception, Ranger Kevin Martinez of Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, and Cathy Schoonmaker, a wildlife biologist for the Santa Monica Mountains Fund (in partnership with the National Park Service), will deliver a presentation about our urban relationship to forests and wildlife. The presentation and reception are both free and open to the public.

A closing reception is scheduled for Saturday, September 29, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM and will feature readings by seven local poets reflecting on wildfire, community, wilderness, and memory. Poets include Bridgette Bianca, Yvonne M. Estrada, Eric Howard, Beverly Lafontaine, Alicia Vogl-Saenz, AK Toney, and Terry Wolverton. The poetry reading will begin at 4:30 PM. Both the reading and closing reception are free and open to the public.
